PETA offering reward money for tips to find person who dumped dog in bag

LINCOLN, R.I. (WLNE) — People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals announced it is offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest of the person responsible for dumping a dead dog on Dec. 14.
On Dec. 14, Lincoln police found a deceased canine in a trash bag in the parking lot of Barney’s Pond on Smithfield Avenue.
Police said the dog’s body had clear signs of trauma and appeared to be “severely emaciated.”
PETA said it is offering up to a $5,000 reward for tips that help to find the person responsible, and that no leads or suspects have been identified.
Police said the canine is believed to have been abandoned between the night of Dec. 13 and the morning of Dec. 14, and believe the vehicle of interest to be a white Toyota Rav4.
“This poor dog was apparently starved, abused, and then dumped on the side of the road like garbage,” PETA Senior Vice President Colleen O’Brien said. “There may be other animals in the perpetrator’s possession, so PETA asks anyone with information to come forward immediately—other lives may depend on it.”
Anyone with information regarding the ownership of the vehicle that was spotted around Barney’s Pond on Dec. 13 or 14, or information related to the deceased animal, is asked to contact Detective Lieutenant Brad Stewart at 401-333-8485.
The case is under investigation by the Lincoln Police Department.
