Phony utility worker prompts warning from Cranston Police

CRANSTON, R.I. – The Cranston Police Department is advising residents to be vigilant of any suspicious activity after an incident involving an individual pretending to be a utility company worker was reported.

According to a post on their Facebook page, an unidentified individual was reported to have been knocking on doors and asking questions of residents.

“Contacts with the utility companies have indicated that there have been no such employees conducting that type of activity in our area,” said the post. “While the Cranston Police Department is investigating this incident, we ask that you remain vigilant and report any/all cases of suspicious activities such as this.”

Police advise if someone comes to your door and claims to be an employee of a public utility, asking for proper identification could verify whether that person is legitimate.

Cranston Police say to contact them immediately at 401-942-2211 if you are uncomfortable with a person at your door.
