The first casino in Massachusetts is set to open up on Wednesday June 23rd.

The Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville is putting the finishing touches on its brand new slot parlor.

The $225 million project has been more than two years in the making. It will be the first slot parlor to open up in the state after the law was changed to allow casinos.

Tuesday, workers could be seen all around the property putting some final touches before the grand opening.

The chief operating officer of the casino’s parent company, Penn National Gaming, explains how this is not the average slot parlor.

“I think when people hear the term, slot parlor, they have something in their mind that is maybe smoke-filled, low ceiling, old slot warehouse,” said Jay Snowden, of Penn National Gaming. “They walk in here and say, ‘Wow this feels like a really cool new casino—smoke free, restaurants, live entertainment.’”

The Plainridge slot parlor has 1,200 machines, including virtual table games. The casino is smoke-free and 21 plus.
