A Rhode Island National Guard cargo plane had a close call when its landing gear did not respond as it was getting ready to land.

Colonel Peter Parente tells ABC6 that the three crew members on board had to manually land the place after the system that lowers the landing gears failed.

The crew members, who were in the middle of a training exercise, followed a safety procedure after alerting officials about the malfunction.

Local fire departments came to assist in the landing, which was successful, and no one was injured.

Hydraulic malfunctions like this are common, according to officials.
