Police: 1 dead in North Smithfield traffic crash

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (AP) _ Police say one person has died in a traffic crash in North Smithfield.
The vehicle was on Route 146A near the exit ramp onto Sayles Hill Road at about 9:30 p.m. Monday when investigators say it left the road, went over the guardrail and struck a utility pole.
The driver, 44-year-old Derek Davis, of Leicester, Ma, was ejected pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was in the vehicle.
The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of family and the crash remains under investigation.
