Police: 2 kids struck by car in Providence, seriously injured

Two toddlers are in serious condition after their stroller was struck by a car at the intersection of Potters Avenue and Dexter Street in Providence Thursday morning just before 8 am.
"We were working and we heard the sirens. Police started to arrive, rescues,” said a worker doing construction nearby.
The woman pushing the stroller was knocked to the ground by the force of the crash. A 2-year-old boy was thrown to the pavement and a 3-year-old girl was left sitting in the stroller. The kids were both rushed to Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
The woman pushing the stroller is not the children’s mother. She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries.
"It’s tragic and our hearts go out to the family,” said Shannon Caroll the President and CEO of the Genesis Center. She and her staff are heartbroken over the accident. The little girl attends school at the center.
Caroll says something needs to be done about this street. She calls it incredibly dangerous.
"It’s a source of a lot of anxiety,” said Caroll. "Cars just speed through there all the time. We have so many accidents. It’s common that I’m sitting in my office and I hear a crash."
Police swarmed the scene after the crash. Accident reconstruction crews were called in to figure out exactly what happened.
The driver of the car that hit the stroller is a 40-year-old from Providence. As of now that person is not facing any charges. The accident does remain under investigation.
