Police and city brace for Newport Folk Festival traffic through weekend

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — Today marks the first day of the Newport Folk Festival, and ahead of the weekend- long concert, Newport police have unveiled traffic pattern changes.

Starting this morning, Newport police will close the northbound lane of Harrison Avenue between the Fort Adams entrance, to the intersection of Beacon Hill Road at Harrison Avenue to all cars.

Cyclists will still be allowed in those areas.

The closures will be in place starting at 8 in morning and ending at 9 at night, Friday through Sunday.

Police say, if you’re not heading to folk festival, but need to get to the southern end of the island, they suggests drivers find an alternate route off
Ocean Avenue from Bellevue Avenue.
