CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WLNE) – Central Falls Police arrested 18 people Tuesday night as protests targeted a detention facility utilized by federal immigration officials.

Dozens of people gathered outside the Wyatt Detention Facility Tuesday night in Central Falls as part of nationwide rallies demanding action on immigration and changes to ICE.

Protestors at the facility said they stand in opposition to what they referred to as, “profiting off of human suffering.”

Central Falls Police said out of the dozens of protestors, 11 women and 7 men were arrested without incident for blocking vehicle access to the facility.

Among those arrested was Aaron Regunberg, a former state representative and 2018 candidate for Lieutenant Governor. “Love to all the beautiful people being held at the Wyatt,” said Regunberg in a tweet Wednesday. “Close the camps.”

The 18 people arrested were processed and released with a summons to appear in Providence District Court on July 11.
