MATTAPOISETT, Mass. (WLNE) — The Mattapoisett Police Department said a man was arrested after a police pursuit on Monday.

19-year-old Nicholas Kreidel, of Prospect, Conn., was charged with reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, lights violation, and speeding.

Around 11:40 p.m., a Mattapoisett officer was traveling north on North Street when a car allegedly swerved over the double yellow lines and almost hit the police cruiser.

When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle near North Street and County Road, police alleged the driver “rapidly accelerated and failed to stop.”

The driver then continued on Route 6 towards Fairhaven in an “erratic manner failing to stop for police units,” according to police.

Fairhaven police were notified of the pursuit and successfully deployed stop sticks near Route 6 and Route 240.

The vehicle allegedly continued to travel north on Route 240 with deflated tires, and eventually became disabled and stopped just before Interstate 195.

The driver, identified as Kreidel, was arrested.

The three other occupants of the vehicle were released.

Kreidel was released on $500 bail and expected to be arraigned on Monday.
