EAST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (WLNE) — East Bridgewater police announced they arrested a Brockton man for drinking under the influence after he crashed his car into two parked cars and left debris in a neighborhood.

Eric Maguire, 47, was charged with operating under the influence of liquor, a marked lanes violation, possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, speeding, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

On Dec. 3, police were sent to Pleasant Street around 8:30 p.m. for reports of a car crashing into a tree.

Upon arrival, police saw a “severely damaged” car in the front yard of a home, with debris and tire marks seen over multiple lawns.

Fire crews located Maguire sitting inside the crashed vehicle.

Officers reported a “strong odor” coming from the vehicle while speaking to the defendant, and found spilled alcohol from a plastic cup and a half-full bottle of liquor in the car while conducting a search.

Maguire was arrested and brought to a nearby hospital for assessment.

On Wednesday morning, he was booked at the East Bridgewater Police Department.

Further investigation by police showed Maguire was driving at 60 miles-per-hour in a 30 miles-per-hour zone when he lost control of his vehicle.

He then steered off the road and stuck multiple trash bins on the road, and crashed into a vehicle parked in a driveway.

Maguire continued driving and hit a tree and a mailbox, causing the mailbox post to snap, and then hit a second parked vehicle.

Police said no injuries were reported, and Maguire is expected to be arraigned in Brockton District Court.
