BELLE PLAINE, Minn. (WLNE) — Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced that the man accused of killing a Minnesota lawmaker and her husband has been caught.

Vance Boelter was arrested near his farm in Green Isle, Minn. after he was spotted on a trail camera Sunday night and tracked down after a nearly two-day manhunt.

Boelter is charged with the murders of Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, as well as the shootings of Democratic Senator John Hoffman and his wife.

Officials said they were also in close contact with the FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office to determine whether additional charges will be brought at the federal level.

“One man’s unthinkable actions have altered the state of Minnesota,” Governor Walz said at a press conference late Sunday night. “Melissa Hortman was the core of who our values were.”

Investigators said a man posing as a police officer allegedly shot and killed Hortman and her husband inside their home early Saturday.

Police said the same suspect was involved a separate attack just 90 minutes earlier, allegedly shooting and wounding Hoffman and his wife.

Authorities identified the suspect as 57-year-old Vance Boelter, leading to a multi-day manhunt that came to an end Sunday night.

At least 20 different SWAT team were brought in as authorities narrowed down the search area to take Boelter into custody.

Officials said there was no use of force by law enforcement in getting Boelter to surrender.

This is a developing story — ABC6 will provide additional details as they are made available.
