Police arrest two, search for one connected to deadly double shooting in Newport

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE)- Police are continuing to investigate a deadly double shooting that happened in Newport early Monday morning.

Officers responded to the Friendly Sons of Newport on Farewell Street just after 1a.m. for report of a possible shooting.

Two victims were immediately transported to R.I. Hospital, according to Newport Police.

Yordi Arevalo, 25-years-old, from Newport, was identified as the victim who sustained life threatening injuries and died from the shooting.

A second victim, 30-year-old Aroldo M. Noel Paniaqua, of Newport, was released with non-life threatening injuries.

Police also obtained an Affidavit and Arrest Warrant for Xavier Perry (left)  and Duane Logan (middle)  for Conspiracy to commit Murder.

Both Steele and Perry were arraigned Tuesday in District Court on the charges of Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Felony Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and Possession of a Firearm during a crime of violence.

Both are being held without bail.

Police say there is still an active Arrest Warrant for 46-year-old Duane Logan, as the investigation continues.
