Police cruiser hit during patrol, bystander flees

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Police are investigating an incident Monday evening after a sedan backed into a police patrol car.

Police say they responded to the area of Friendship St. and Pearl St., for the report of a motor vehicle accident involving an officer.

Upon arrival, it became known that while driving on patrol, the operator of a sedan had backed into the police car. No injuries were reported.

A bystander near the sedan fled the scene on foot. 

The unidentified driver of the sedan is not facing charges at this moment in time.

Police are investigating.
