POLICE: Driver of car flees on foot after crashing into building in Providence

The car crashed a little after 4 a.m. in the building on Smith St. (WLNE)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A driver who crashed into a building on Smith Street this morning fled on foot, according to officials.

The car went into a vacant business just after 4 a.m. this morning.

When officials arrived, there was no occupants upon arrival.

According to police, there was significant structural damage to building and vehicle.

The vehicle vehicle went through the front wall that was made of glass and block, across an entire empty store, and through the back wall that consisted of solid block.

The Providence Building Inspector was also on scene.

There was no damage to the load points or columns that held up the roof.
