Police, FBI ask for continued public assistance in search for Brown shooting suspect

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — As new images of the person of interest in Saturday’s deadly Brown University mass shooting have trickled in, police are asking for continued public assistance to identify the suspect.

The suspect is described by the FBI as a 5’8″ male with a stocky build who should be considered armed and dangerous.

A $50,000 reward is being offered by the FBI for information leading to an arrest, and agents were seen retracing the suspect’s steps outside the university Monday.

Local authorities are working in conjunction with personnel from the federal government.

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha said of the investigation, in part:

The sooner we can identify that person, the sooner we can, I think, blow this case open. But that’s that’s work that has to happen in the next 24 to 36 hours.

Anyone with information related to the suspect’s identity or location is asked to call 401-272-3121.

You can also submit a tip online via the FBI’s tip line page.

Authorities are expected to deliver their next briefing in the investigation Tuesday.

The victims who died in the shooting are being remembered by loved ones.

Of victim MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, friend Vanessa Finder said in part:

It truly has changed my life and it’s just insane for the people he’s close to, his friends, even just other students at Brown; were all heartbroken.

A GoFundMe was created in Umurzokov’s memory, a campaign that has raised $423,000 of its $460,000 goal.

Ella Cook is being remembered as a competitive pianist and volunteer leader in her Birmingham, Alabama church.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey authorized state flags to fly at half-staff until sunset Friday.

Eight students remain hospitalized following the shooting as of the most recent update.
