Police identify Burrillville woman killed in Woonsocket crash

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Police on Wednesday identified the woman who was killed in a two-car crash in Woonsocket.

The crash happened just before 12 p.m. Tuesday on Harris Avenue.

Chief Thomas Oates said 58-year-old Cristina Perez, of Burrillville, was taken to the hospital where she later died from her injuries.

The chief said a Perez’s passenger, a 20-year-old woman, still remains at Rhode Island Hospital.

The 25-year-old woman in the other car is still in the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, said Oates.

“An accident like that is sad,” neighbor Vasyl Janick said. “God have mercy on them.”

Neighbors, like Janick, said they are upset, but not shocked after Perez’s untimely death. He cited constant speeding in the area.

“Just hope and pray that, you know, something like this would wake people up and drive more sensibly,” Janick said.

ABC 6 News reached out to Oates about neighbor concerns, and he issued this statement:

“Speed enforcement is constant, but appropriate driving comes down to the operator of the vehicle. It’s their option to make the right choices not to speed, text while they’re driving, or be under the influence of any substances.”

Police said a car was traveling at a high rate of speed when the crash happened. It wasn’t immediately known which car was speeding.
