Police identify man shot, killed in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Police confirmed Wednesday that a man was shot and killed in the early morning on Fountain Street.

The victim, 31-year-old David Long, who was shot around 4 a.m. died soon after at Rhode Island Hospital.

The car that the victim had been in was stopped at the time of the shooting, but had several passengers.

Police closed down a section of Fountain Street to investigate the scene until after the sun came up, to get a better look at the scene.

The road has since been reopened, but the incident is still being investigated.

It is unclear what caused this shooting, but police say they are actively looking for more than one suspect.
