CRANSTON, RI – Cranston Police were on scene investigating an attempted robbery turned shooting at a BestWay service station, Monday night.

Officers were called to the store at 1353 Park Avenue around 7:30 p.m. by the clerk, who was suffering from several gunshot wounds.  He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in critical condition.

Police say the suspect was captured on surveillance video committing the crime and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, skeleton mask, and gloves.

"There was a female customer who walked up to the door while this robber was in progress. We believe that she did in fact come face to face with the suspect and she left in her vehicle. If that woman is out there we would love to talk to her if she has any additional information to share with our detectives," said Colonel Michael Winquist of the Cranston Police Department.

One man on scene told ABC6 News he saw the suspect get picked up in a black Chevy Tahoe.  "He was walking looking for a ride and then all the sudden someone picked him up. Black hood on his end."

If anyone has information regarding the incident, they are asked to contact Cranston Police at (401) 942-2211.
