UPDATE: Police investigate early morning shooting in Cranston

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) – Police are investigating a shooting on Pontiac Avenue after one person was shot and rushed to the hospital.

Cranston Police responded to 1012 Pontiac Avenue around 3:10 a.m. Thursday morning, for reports of a shooting. 

The victim, a man in his 30s, was located by officers in the basement of the address with a gunshot wound to the upper chest area. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital to undergo surgery for non-life threatening injuries. 

Police said the victim was known to both of the home’s residents and that they are cooperating with detectives.
