Police identify victim in fatal accident on Route 146

Rhode Island State Police are investigating a fatal crash on Route 146 that claimed the life of a 24-year-old woman.

The victim has been identified as Meghan Soltys, of Lincoln. At this time, the accident continues to be under investigation.

State troopers and North Providence police reported to the scene in at 1:35 a.m. Saturday.

According to police, a BMW was traveling North on Route 146 in the low speed lane when a Nissan rear ended the BMW at high speed. As a result, the Nissan lost control, veered to the left, and struck the center concrete barrier after rolling over several times. The BMW came to a stop in the right breakdown lane.

The female driver of the Nissan was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. She was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The driver and three passengers in the BMW were wearing their seatbelts, and were also transported to Rhode Island Hospital. They had non-life threatening injuries.

All lanes of Route 146 North at Mineral Spring Avenue were closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated.

The motor vehicle crash continues to be under investigation. It is requested that any persons who witnessed the accident contact State Police Headquarters at (401) 444-1100.
