Police investigate fatal ATV accident in Middleborough

MIDDLEBOROUGH, Mass. (WLNE) – A Middleborough man died after his all-terrain vehicle (ATV) crashed into a pond early Saturday morning according to Police Chief Joseph Perkins.

Officers responded to a call at 12:40 a.m. to a cranberry bog off of Stone Street where the ATV had crashed.

When officers arrived they saw the ATV submerged with the driver still inside.

Police were able to free the man from the vehicle and he was taken to Beth Isreal Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth, where he was pronounced dead.

The name of the 49-year-old victim has not yet been released, pending positive identification.

The accident is under investigation by the Middleborough Police Department and the Massachusetts Environmental Police.
