Police investigate fatal crash in Westport

At about 11:00 pm on Thursday, the Westport police and fire officials responded to a report of a one-car crash where a vehicle had struck a large tree. The 18 year old driver was killed as a result of the impact.

The grey Mercedes was found around the area of 275 Reed Road. The car sustained heavy front and driver’s side damage after going off road and striking the tree.

There were noticeable skid marks on the road, and according to police, excessive speed is believed to have played a factor in the crash.

The road was closed for about 3 hours during the initial investigation. The investigation is currently underway with the assistance of the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

The identity of the driver is not being released at this time.
