(WLNE)

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE)- Police are investigating a fatal crash in Warwick after a 77-year-old man was struck by a car.

Warwick Police responded to the area of Centerville Street around 8:37 p.m. on Thursday.

Upon arrival, the man was found lying unconscious in the road with significant injuries.

The man was transported to Rhode Island State Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The name of the victim has not been released yet.

According to police, the 24-year-old driver immediately stopped and remained on scene for police arrival.

“The reconstruction teams’ initial review has determined that the operator was not under the influence and speed was not a factor. The pedestrian attempted to cross the roadway in an area with no cross walks and limited street lighting,” says police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Warwick Police Department Traffic Division at (401) 468-4200.
