Police investigate after man shot in Providence restaurant
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Providence police responded to a second shooting in just one day on Saturday night.
Officers responded to the Montecristo Bar and Grille on Elmwood Avenue for a report of a shooting just before 10 p.m.
The report came just hours after a 19-year-old man was shot and killed while sitting in his car on Academy Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found a 41-year-old man behind the restaurant, suffering from a gunshot wound to his stomach.
Providence police said patrons in the restaurant told them the victim had been involved in a physical altercation inside of the restaurant with another man.
After a short scuffle, the suspect shot the victim one time in the stomach, and fled out through the front door onto Elmwood Avenue.
Investigators found one shell casing on the floor next to the bar, and an additional casing on the sidewalk outside of the establishment.
The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
Providence police said the victim is in critical stable condition and no one has been apprehended. An emergency hearing with the Board of Licensing will be held Sunday.
Providence detectives are investigating.
