PROVIDENCE, R.I (WLNE) – Providence Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at a local cell phone store on Tuesday.

According to police, the robbery happened at approximately 5:12 pm at a MetroPCS on Pontiac Avenue.

Police spoke with a store clerk who said a male subject asked him to open the door.

As the clerk opened the door for the unknown male, thinking he was a regular customer.

The clerk then stated as he was walking back to the register, the unknown male approached him “very aggressively” and brandished a black firearm.

The clerk said the unknown male stated, “Get on the floor, I’m not playing,” and proceeded to take the whole register and fled the scene in an unknown direction.

The unknown male is described as an unshaven white male, who is believed to be in his late 40s, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt underneath a black winter coat, blue jeans, brown work boots, and black gloves.

Surveillance cameras inside the store captured the incident, according to police.

This particular location is slated to close on February 1, 2020.

The store was closed on Wednesday, it is unclear if or when they will open back up for business before their closing date.
