Police investigating deadly crash in Providence
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Police said a man was killed in a deadly crash in Providence on Wednesday afternoon.
The Providence Police Department said 29-year-old Joshua Diaz died after his sedan collided with a dump truck on Plainfield Street around 2 p.m.
Authorities said officers responded to the area of Plainfield Street at Union Avenue for reports of a motor vehicle accident with injuries.
Officials said a car collided with a dump truck and suffered “heavy front end and windshield damage.”
Diaz taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
The truck driver was not injured, and part of the street was blocked off due to the crash.
Locals told ABC 6 crews on-scene that the intersection is particularly dangerous, adding that many cars speed down Plainfield Street with no need to stop.
The only stop sign at the intersection is on Union Avenue.
Officials said an accident reconstruction team responded to the scene, noting that the investigation is ongoing.
