MANSFIELD, Mass. ( WLNE) – Two men were killed when a small plane crashed at Mansfield Municipal Airport on Saturday afternoon.

Massachusetts State Police say 32-year-old Sydney Miti of Waltham, a flight instructor, and 18-year-old Julian Latterman of Dover, a student, were killed when the Cessna 172S single-engine aircraft crashed around 12:30 p.m. nose-first.

According to the FAA registry, the plane is registered to New Horizon Aviation, a flight training school with locations in Norwood, Massachusetts, and Warwick, Rhode Island.

Officials say the plane was traveling from the school’s Norwood location when it crashed.

A representative from the flight school said in a statement to ABC6, “we are heartsick for the pilot and student on board,” adding that they are “fully complying with authorities as the investigation continues.”

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
