WESTPORT, Mass. (WLNE) — Westport police are continuing to investigate a driver in a deadly hit-and-run in town.
Police have identified the victim as 48-year-old Margaret Costa of Fall River.
Investigators are now turning their attention to an unidentified female who called in saying she thought she “hit a deer” in the same area as the accident.
Authorities say they originally responded to calls of a woman running on the highway near State Road near Whites Restaurant not far from the Fall River line at approximately 9:30 p.m. Saturday night.
When they arrived on scene, they found Costa had been hit by a car and was unresponsive.
Costa was transported to St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River where she was later pronounced dead.
The driver is not being named a suspect yet, but pieces of the car matched debris found near the victim.
