Police investigating serious overnight Scitutate crash

SCITUATE, R.I. (WLNE) – Police in Scituate are investigating a serious overnight crash on Route 6.

Officers responded to a 911 call reporting a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 101 and Route 6 in Scituate around 12:05 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers determined that the vehicle was traveling east on Route 6 when it traveled into the westbound lane and struck a telephone pole.

Both occupants of the vehicle, identified as 53-year-old Fredrick Kosnick of Glocester and 51-year-old Philip Downing of Plainfield, Connecticut, were transported to Rhode Island Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but police said speed and alcohol appear to be factors.
