Warren Police investigating, after a kitten was discovered on a busy street corner left for dead.
"It appeared more neglected. Someone had just discarded it,"says Deputy Chief Joseph Loiselle
According to police, the kitten was found half alive in a plastic bag here at the corner of Metacom Ave. and Child St. Now just a few days later another malnourished cat was found just a block down.
No word yet…if these cases are connected, but both animals were taken to the warren animal hospital. The younger kitten died, but the second cat- vets named "sweetie"- is slowly recovering.
"Skin on a skeleton basically, there is nothing more on this cat," says Vet Assistant Jan Bowden.
Bowden says sweetie came in with an upper respiratory infection and was pregnant, but due to her condition none of her babies survived.
"We can’t fill in the blanks yet at least. So we don’t know if this is a cat that got in to the wrong place at the wrong time and didn’t have access to food and water and so forth. Or someone just didn’t care enough about her to get her help when she developed an upper respiratory infection,"says Bowden.
Either way it’s something police working on getting to the bottom of.
"I’m responsible for our animal control division, I’m a pet owner, and just like anybody else. It’s disturbing,"adds Deputy Chief Loiselle.
Once sweetie fully recovers, she’ll be put up for adoption. Right now Police don’t have any leads, but they’re asking anyone who might know something to give them a call at (401) 245-1311.
