A 20-year-old South Kingstown man is facing charges after police say he was drunk when he drove into another car, injuring both passengers.
Just before 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, police in Richmond responded to a two-vehicle crash near 1209 Main Street. They found a heavily-damaged Jeep that was hit head-on by a pickup.
The 75-year-old woman driving the Jeep was sent to the hospital with fractured ribs and other bones, and is still recovering in the hospital. Her 8-year-old female passenger was also sent to the hospital with minor injuries.
Officers arrested the driver of the pickup truck, 20-year-old Connor Jalbert of South Kingstown, for DUI resulting in serious bodily injury and refusal to submit to a chemical test.
An eyewitness reportedly saw Jalbert speeding and driving recklessly into the opposite lane of travel before the crash.
Jalbert is due in court at the end of the month for arraignment.
