Police: Man beat dog with baseball bat because it ate his Whopper

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) – 50-year -old Gregory Ostiguy was held on $5,000 bail after being charged with animal cruelty stemming from a May 18 incident in Dartmouth, where witnesses say he beat his dog with a baseball bat.

Officers arrived to find Ostiguy screaming at his dog who was sitting in the front seat of his Jeep,shaking. According to a police report Ostiguy took two knives out of his pocket and put them on top of his car. When they asked Ostiguy why he was yelling, he said he was upset because he worked all day and the dog ate his Whopper.

Ostiguy has a prior record including an animal cruelty charge from 2009, assault with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a police officer.

The state requested a $25,000 bail, but the defense asked for personal recognizance citing Ostiguy’s status as a homeless Marine veteran with PTSD.
