Police: Man hit city snow plow with shovel

A Portsmouth man has been charged after police say he hit a town snow plow with his shovel.
Police responded to Holman St. around 7:30 on Saturday night after a DPW snow plow driver reported a man swearing at him and striking his plow with a shovel.
When officers arrived, they found a vehicle partially in the driveway of the residence, blocking the snow removal.
The plow driver says he made a run down the street and honked his horn letting the vehicle driver, David McAllister, know he was in the area.
The plow driver came back up the street and that’s when he says McAllister walked in front of the truck and started to yell and strike the plow with his shovel.
McAllister reportedly struck the driver’s open window, almost hitting him, and struck the plow itself.
When officers approached McAllister inside the home, they say he appeared drunk and when told he was going to be arrested, he said, “no, I don’t want to”.
After a short struggle officers were able to arrest him and he was charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and vandalism to the plow.
