Police: Man in custody after stealing a box truck from his work in Johnston and stabbing a person in Providence

JOHNSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — The Johnston Police Department said that a man is in Providence Police custody tonight after stealing a Box truck from his workplace in Johnston and stabbing a person in Providence.

Johnston police said around 6:30 p.m. they responded to reports of a stabbing in the area of Hartford Avenue and Killingly Street in Providence to assist the Providence Police Department.

On scene Police said they learned that 57-year-old Richard Gilbert of Providence showed up to his workplace, Shred N Go in Johnston, caused a disturbance, and then stole a company box truck and left.

Another employee followed Gilbert to the location in Providence where the stabbing happened.

Johnston Police said that Gilbert is currently in Providence Police custody, but will face charges in Johnston of Driving Without Consent of Owner or Lessee and Disorderly Conduct.
