Police: Middletown man barricaded himself in home in face of disturbance response

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — Middletown police arrested a town man Sunday night after he allegedly barricaded himself inside his home during a police response to a disturbance call.

Clayton Frable, 59, refused to exit his Green End Avenue home Sunday at approximately 9 p.m. after officers arrived, according to the Middletown Police Department.

Frable also refused to allow officers into the home, but allowed a 44-year-old Middletown woman to leave before barricading himself inside, according to police.

The woman was evaluated by on-scene Middletown rescue personnel and transported to Newport Hospital for injury treatment.

Rhode Island State Police and Newport County Special Response Team (NCSRT) personnel were called to Green End Avenue to assist in the situation.

The negotiator for the NCSRT was able to communicate with Frable and convince him to exit the home, according to police.

Frable was arrested without incident and is charged with:

  • One count of domestic violence – simple assault and/or battery, second offense
  • One count of obstructing an officer in the execution of duty

Frable was held in custody at the Middletown Police Department overnight Sunday and will be arraigned at Second District Court in Newport Monday morning.
