Police: Moped rider with toddler passenger charged with DUI
NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — A man has been charged with a DUI after allegedly crashing his moped into a parked car with an 18-month old child on his vehicle, according to Newport police.
Charles Fenwick, 31, is charged with child endangerment, DUI resulting in serious bodily injury, reckless driving and refusal to submit to a chemical test.
The incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Spring Street, where police responded to a call of a motor vehicle accident.
Upon their arrival, officers observed Fenwick lying on the ground with an apparent leg injury.
A witness was holding the toddler who was a passenger on the moped.
The child was transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital and Fenwick was transported to Newport Hospital and later Rhode Island Hospital.
Fenwick was treated for non-life threatening injuries and the toddler is in stable condition.
The incident is still under investigation.
