Police recover, identify man who fell into Pawcatuck River

WESTERLY, R.I. (WLNE) — The Westerly Police Department identified the body of a man who fell into the Pawcatuck River on Sunday.

Westerly Police Chief Paul Gingerella said 40-year-old Matthew Brouillette was recovered from the river Monday.

Officials said Brouillette’s body was located 20-30 feet offshore, a short distance from where he fell in.

Multiple agencies assisted in the rescue search Sunday night, which was called off around 10:00 p.m.

Crews reconvened Monday around 8:30 a.m. and narrowed the search field.

Authorities located Brouillette’s body with assistance from Canine Search and Rescue and an underwater drone.

Gingerella said foul play is not considered a factor.
