WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — The Warwick Police Department released body-worn camera footage from their search of a home after the drowning death of a 3-year-old boy in August.
David Holloway II and Kaitlyn Nolan were both charged with five counts of cruelty to or neglect of a child after their children were found to be living in squalor. Holloway in addition faces child endangerment and animal cruelty charges.
The video footage showed officers entering Holloway’s home on Gorham Avenue on Aug. 28. According to police documents, Nolan had moved out.
The footage was released days after police provided substantial documentation of the deplorable conditions found amid the investigation.

The garage was cluttered with a bare mattress and other items. When the officer opens the door, there is clothing, trash, and other clutter in the kitchen and two bottles of pills left on the kitchen table.
Drawings made by children covered the walls. It did not appear that anyone was home when police and Animal Control searched the house.
What seemed to be the living room lacked any furniture other than a damaged couch that was being used to block the front door. Clothes and trash covered the floor.
Police found feces, urine, and maggots scattered around the house.

Authorities located and removed two dogs, one of which looked weak and was not moving.
The police documents said that later, one was humanely euthanized due to its condition.
Officers then look in the basement and find a marijuana grow operation. They noted the basement appeared to be in better shape than the rest of the house.
Neither Holloway II or Nolan currently face drug charges.

According to police documents, 3-year-old D.J. followed his 13-year-old brother, Ryan, to a neighbor’s pool also on Gorham Avenue.
Ryan was said to be autistic, had limited speech, and does not have a sense of danger.
The neighbors said the children have wandered to their pool before without permission, and had security cameras installed.

The documents said that police reviewed the neighbor’s security video, and saw both boys get into the water. They said D.J. struggled in the pool next to Ryan, who did not realize what was happening.
D.J. later died at Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
The children were turned over to the Department of Children, Youth, and Families.
Both parents are expected for court screenings in early 2024.
