Police respond to shots fired in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- Officers from the Providence Police Department responded to reports of shots fired in the city early on Saturday morning.

Reports came in at about 5 a.m., with multiple callers reporting shots fired in the area of California Avenue.

Upon arriving at the scene, investigators found a total of 17 casings at the scene.

One of the callers, a 26-year-old woman, told police that one of the shots nearly hit a man who was sleeping on her couch.

The woman said that she had hear the shots and then looked outside and saw two individuals getting into a black SUV.

The SUV then drove off towards Michigan Avenue.
