Police say a man is in custody after holding fiancé hostage
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police said a man has been taken into custody after holding his fiancé hostage on Wednesday.
Just before 4 p.m., Providence police were dispatched to Douglas Avenue after a clinician requested a well-being check on a man who made self-harming threats.
Upon arrival, police say the 61-year-old man was armed with a knife inside a third floor apartment with his fiancée.
Police say the fiancé barricaded herself in a bedroom to stay away from the suspect.
The man also threatened officers, and was tased by police after attempting to throw a bottle at them.
After several hours of negotiation, the man released his fiancée and discarded a knife, according to Col. Perez.
The fiancée was reported not to be injured.
