Police search East Side for Brown shooter footage on day four of manhunt

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police walked the East Side on Monday asking residents for any security camera video that might have caught an image of the Brown University mass shooting suspect on Saturday.

The FBI is now saying that the person of interest captured on several pieces of footage is approximately 5’8″ with a stocky build.

They are also offering a reward of $50,000 for any information that leads to an arrest.

Some local schools chose to cancel classes Monday, including Moses Brown and the Wheeler School, while others held classes with buildings flanked by increased police presence.

Brown University itself has canceled the remaining slate of exams, and students who have remained on campus are still struggling to feel safe in the usually quiet College Hill area.

Someone came around and talked to us, said ‘get out, evacuate,'” said Brown freshman Grace Hong.

“Seeing officers everywhere across campus, I was just like, ‘I need to call my mom.’ I just want my parents, you know, my hometown, at least for me, just getting away from this campus as soon as possible.”

Mental health resources are available for students at 450 Brook Street, and 211 and the 988 Crisis Lifeline are also available.

In addition to the search for footage of the suspect, police are hoping to interview anyone who was in the Barus and Holley Engineering Building Saturday to obtain any information they can on the shooter or the incident.

Updates from Providence Mayor Brett Smiley and local and federal law enforcement are expected to come as new information comes to light.
