CRANSTON, RI – Police are searching for a man who robbed a hair salon and carjacked a vehicle with people inside.
The Cranston Police Department received a call on March 29, at 9:00 am about a robbery that occurred at Shear Dimensions Hair Salon on Reservoir Avenue.
Officials learned the suspect fled on foot but then received additional information that the suspect who carjacked a vehicle on Knollwood Avenue shortly after, matched the description of the burglar from the hair salon.
A witness tells police the suspect drove south on Reservoir Avenue with a female victim and her one-year old child in the car.
Shortly after, the vehicle was located on Reservoir Avenue with the female victim and child inside unharmed. She advised police the carjacker exited the vehicle and got inside an older model dark colored BMW.
ABC6 News caught up with some residents on Knollwood Avenue, who cannot believe something so intense happened so close by.
“Never had anything like this happen,” recounted Tillie Orleck, who has lived on that street for more than 50 years.
Neighbor Erin Rico describes the street as quiet and safe. “To hear something like this happening here is pretty surprising.”
Detectives acquired an arrest warrant for Jerry Cintron, 33, of Pawtucket for Second Degree Robbery.
The suspect is described as a black man with a medium complexion and spotted pigmentation around the mouth and fingers. He is 6’2 and 285 pounds with a tattoo of a cross and the word “Jerry” on his right arm.
Cintron has a long criminal history, was in recent times released from the Adult Correctional Institution, is currently on probation and should be considered armed and dangerous.
The suspect might be driving a green 2003 745i BMW with the Rhode Island registration 961902.
Police are saying the public should not approach the suspect but should call 911 if he is spotted.
Also, anyone with information should call Detective Robert Lindsay at 401- 477-5142.
