Police shot at while checking room at Marriot Suites in Wareham

WAREHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — On Friday Wareham Police were shot at while checking a hotel room at the TownePlace Suites by Marriot in Wareham.

On Aug. 23 at approximately 8:03 p.m. police said they responded to reports of gunshots in the bog area near the rear of the hotel on Rosebrook Way.

On arrival, police said they were informed by hotel management of suspicious activity involving a guest who entered the hotel room after returning from the bog area.

The man was identified as Scott Desimas of New Bedford.

Officers said when attempting to contact Desmias at his hotel room, three gunshots were fired from the room and through the door at the officers.

Police said two of the shots narrowly missed the officers as they traveled through the wall behind them and into the pool area, which had two children and one adult in it at the time. Two of the rounds were found in the pool.

No one was injured and Desimas exited the room shortly after the gunshots.

Police said Decimas was taken into custody without further incident.

Two children and a woman were in the room at the time of the shooting, they were safely escorted from the property. A search of the room revealed two firearms, including a rifle and a handgun according to police.

Police said an investigation is ongoing at this time, and it has been turned over to the Wareham Police Department Detective Division.
