TIVERTON, R.I. — A barber shop owner was busted for selling drugs out of his Tiverton business Tuesday.
Police discovered 170 bags of heroin and hundreds of dollars in cash inside Upper Cuts Barber Shop on Main Road.
The owner, 39-year-old Jesse Rego, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. Neighbors say cops showed up to the business Tuesday afternoon with K9’s and searched Rego’s truck and the entire premises. They say he moved his business in to the quiet Tiverton neighborhood less than a year ago, after a different barber shop moved out.
The Rhode Island Department of Health says Rego is a licensed apprentice barber.
Rego was held without bail until his hearing next week. According to Fall River Police, he was arrested in that city back in 2007 on a possession with intent to deliver charge, but instead of heroin, it was for a Class B controlled substance, which includes drugs like cocaine.
