Police: Woman recovering in hospital after being shot in the back

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Providence police are investigating after a woman was shot in the back early Sunday morning.
Officers responded to a report of shots fired near Eastwood Avenue and Merino Street at approximately 1:09 a.m. on Sunday morning. According to dispatch, around 15 shots were heard.
Officers noticed a large crowd gathering on Eastwood Avenue, and were told a woman had been shot.
After speaking with witnesses, officers were advised that the shooting victim had been taken to the Woman and Infants Hospital.
Police say the victim was a 27-year-old woman, who was shot in the back. The woman is still in the hospital and in stable condition, according to Commander Thomas Verdi.
Police determined the scene of the shooting in front of 247 Eastwood Ave, where they found a black BMW riddled with bullet holes.
A witness on scene told police that she observed two men, who she believed may be involved. The witness described the men as the following:
- One Hispanic man wearing a yellow cardigan with a ‘man bun’ as well as a light colored beard
- One Black man wearing a yellow jacket with dreads
Investigators found 20 shell casings around the BMW, which was towed from the scene for further investigation.
Commander Verdi said they are investigating, and no arrests have been made.
