Pontoon boat accident leaves four adults, two children seriously injured

COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) – Four adults and two children are injured after a boat ran aground off Johnson’s Pond in Coventry on Friday.
Coventry Police say that a little after 4:00 p.m. Friday, Police and Fire Department officials were dispatched to an area near Hill Farm Camp Road for reports of a boat run aground.
First responders encountered six occupants at the scene, including four adults and two children. All six individuals were transported to Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
According to Police, the driver lost control of the boat and drove into a wall. From there, the boat went over the wall and landed in the backyard of a residence. Some of the occupants in the boat were thrown out of the vessel upon impact.
The current condition of the six occupants is unknown at this time.
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is leading an investigation into the accident.
