Pope Francis visits Nazi death camp

Pope Francis pays a visit to the Nazi death camp of Auschwitz.

Francis is the third pontiff to make the pilgrimage to the place where Adolf Hitler’s forces killed more than a million people, mainly Jews.

The pope prayed silently for 15 minutes before meeting several survivors of the camp.

Francis then carried a large white candle and placed it at the death wall, where prisoners were executed.
