MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — A popular movie theater in Middletown will close its doors for good this month.

Island Cinemas announced in a post on social media that it will permanently close on Sunday, Jan. 21.

The beloved theater features luxury powered recliner chairs and a food menu as well as popcorn.

“We have been a part of this community for 30 years, as Holiday Cinemas 7 and then Island Cinemas 10,” the post said.

“We would like to thank everyone who patronized our business along the way, we couldn’t have made it this long without all of you. We truly loved our customers,” the post continued.

The closure comes after building was sold, and the theater lease was not renewed.

Newport Pickleball, which will make its grand opening this summer, listed its address on its website as 866 West Main Rd. — “Previous Island Cinema Location.”
