PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WLNE) – The Portsmouth High School, that is used for a voting location, was evacuated during voting hours on Tuesday.

The RI Board of Elections reported that there was a gas leak in the building, but the Fire Department says there was no gas leak.

Steve Erickson of the RI Board of elections soon after reported that the evacuation was due to an “air quality issue”.

The location to vote was moved to another gym in a separate building.

The Board then voted to extend voting hours to make up for the time it took for them to move locations, which will be until 9 p.m.
