Portsmouth Police arrest man for firearms related charges outside of Glen Manor House

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WLNE) — The Portsmouth Police Department said a Massachusetts man was arrested outside of Glen Manor House in Portsmouth for firearms related charges on May 4.
Nelson Rivera, of Chelsea, Mass., was charged with on count of carrying a pistol while intoxicated and one count of license or permit required for carrying a pistol.
Around 3 a.m., a patrol officer discovered a suspicious vehicle parked at the Glen Manor House lot while conducting a check on the property.
The vehicle was unoccupied, but the officer alleges they observed multiple open alcoholic beverages, shotgun shells, and handgun ammunition inside.
The officer then searched the area and found four people fishing at the Glen Manor House dock with “numerous alcoholic beverages.”
Officers identified the owner of the vehicle as Rivera, who police allege had “obvious signs of intoxication.”
Rivera then allegedly told police he was in possession of a concealed firearm, in which officers allegedly discovered a nine-millimeter handgun tucked into his pants and a loaded ten round magazine.
Police said the defendant does not have a license to carry a concealed weapon.
He was arrested and later arraigned on May 4.
His bail was set at $5,000 with surety, and issued a no trespass order for the Glen Manor House.
Rivera is scheduled to be re-arraigned on May 8.
